Back again due to high demand!!
Less than a month ago, Derek Llewellyn taught a formidable handstand workshop. So due to public demand, we are excited to give him an encore and have him back for yet another one! As a professional circus acrobat, Derek will take you on a fascinating journey to your handstand! Inversions bring great benefits to the body, so come along, fast track your progress and gain the tools you need to fly!
In his 2-hour workshop, Derek will teach you about all elements needed to safely hold yourself upside-down, covering handstand principles & drills to get you to fly and enjoy the process.
Handstand is an enlivening, courageous, fulfilling posture - invigorating and exciting in the moment when it all comes together.
Derek will break down the whole process from fingertips to toes and show you how it all fits together. You will learn multiple ways to safely enter and come out of a handstand, experience drills for progressing and stabilising and proper body position. Derek will also discuss barriers to getting off the wall, help you understand your fears and - for the more experienced participants - provide advanced leg positions in handstands.
Whether you are a beginner or an advanced practitioner, this workshop will help you build confidence in your inversion practice. We will be working in teams of two to support each others’ learning, so this is the perfect opportunity to bring a partner or friend.

About Derek Llewellyn
Derek is an acrobatic generalist and has been performing professionally for circuses in Australia and abroad for over 20 years. Starting with his first love of flying trapeze in 2001, Derek went on to complete a Bachelor of Circus Arts, graduating from the National Institute of Circus Arts in 2004.
Since then, he has thoroughly enjoyed the stage, performing skills as Teeterboard, Russian Swing, Chinese Pole, Duo and Trio Balancing, Shoulder Pole, Swinging Trapeze, Petite Vaulant and Juggling. As a life long learner, he continues to develop new skills - most recently, a highly successful duo acrobatic silent clown show at 5 fringe festivals in 2018. After selling out shows in Perth, Brighton and Edinburgh and winning awards in Adelaide and Prague including the highly sought after "People's Choice", he sold ownership of his company and changed tac.
Currently living in Brisbane full time, Derek only recently discovered yoga and is loving the soothing effects it has on his battered circus body.
